FAQs

What is the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation?

The Foundation is a food education charity registered in England and Wales (no. 1094536). Its projects focus on food education programmes for communities and schools:

And what about food education abroad?

In the USA we have the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation, which is a Delaware non-profit public benefit corporation, currently applying for federal income tax exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

In Australia we work with The Good Guys and their charitable arm, The Good Foundation, to facilitate and fund our Ministry of Food project.

How did it start?

Jamie Oliver founded the charity in 2002. Lots has happened since then, so be sure to read Our history and all about the activities.

Does Jamie get any money from the Foundation?

Not a penny! In fact, he sets his own businesses individual fundraising targets to help the Foundation. He also dedicates a huge amount of time to the Foundation and its activities, in parallel with his global campaigns for better food education. It's something that is close to his heart and he's hugely passionate about it.

Why doesn't Jamie fund the Foundation himself?

Jamie personally donated all his royalties from his successful cookbook, Cook with Jamie, to the Foundation. His businesses and staff all support the Foundation wherever possible, through donations, volunteering, fundraising or in-kind services. As a charity we cannot solely rely on Jamie, and to be sustainable we have to raise as much as we can from as many sources as possible.

How do Jamie's businesses support the Foundation?

Jamie and his businesses believe that the Foundation is at the heart of everything they do and each year Jamie's businesses raise funds for the Foundation. We receive a mixture of financial support and donations of time and expertise.

What plans are in place for the future?

The Foundation's vision is to join forces with like-minded charities and individuals who share our belief that better food knowledge and cooking skills will mean better lives. We aim to build on our Food Revolution Day campaign to build greater awareness of the need for better food education helping to reduce the impact of diet related disease for current and future generations. We are currently preparing additional materials for schools and extending our Ministry of Food programme to reach more people in more communities.

Can Jamie help my charity?

Jamie is an active campaigner and great supporter of many social causes. As much as he'd like to be available wherever he can, his time and energy is dedicated to the work of his Foundation.
